Pope Benedict XVI has been accused of failing to act, before he became pontiff, against a US priest who allegedly abused 200 deaf boys.
As a cardinal heading the Vatican office that dealt with sex abuse cases, the future pontiff allegedly failed to respond to letters about the case.
The Vatican said US civil authorities had investigated and dropped the case.

The Catholic church isn’t the only one protecting abusive priests. The Jehovah’s Witnesses also have a long history of abusing children but you never hear anything about them. They are also known for threatening the children with excommunication. I have also heard of several Lutheran churches protecting abusers. We need to have an international law that requires all abuse to be reported to authorities, and a list of people that have been convicted of it.

You are absolutely right, the Catholic Church is far from the only organisation implicated in systemic child abuse and indeed it extends well beyond the bounds of religion.
